I don’t follow a strict routine every single night, but on a typical office day this is roughly how my evening goes, and it’s become one of my favorite parts of the day.
Straight to the shower
The second I get home I undress and head straight into the shower, makeup and all. I wash most of it off in there first, then handle whatever’s left once I’m out, this way nothing lingers on my skin overnight and I actually get out feeling like I’ve washed the whole day off, not just changed clothes. There’s something about stepping out clean from all of it, the office, the commute, everything, and putting on soft home clothes right after. That’s when I actually feel like I’ve reset.
I think this step matters more than people give it credit for. It’s not just about hygiene, it’s the clearest line I have between “work me” and “home me.” Some days I don’t even realize how much tension I’m holding until I’m out of the shower and suddenly my shoulders drop a little, my breathing slows down, and I actually feel like I’ve arrived home instead of just being physically there.

A light snack if I need one
If I didn’t eat much earlier or ate too much and still feel off, I’ll have something small later in the evening, boiled corn is a favorite, sometimes cookies with tea. Nothing heavy, just enough to settle whatever the day left unsettled. An hour or two after that I’ll usually have kefir or something probiotic, mostly for my stomach, it’s become a small habit that just makes me feel better before bed.
Light yoga, not a workout
Somewhere in there I roll out my mat, but this isn’t the kind of session meant to get my heart rate up. I already spent the whole day at the office, so by the time evening comes I want the opposite of that, gentle stretching, nothing that raises my adrenaline or gets me sweating again. Just enough movement to release tension from sitting all day, a few slow stretches, maybe some poses that open up my shoulders and back.
I’ve noticed the type of movement really changes how the rest of the night feels. A harder workout in the evening tends to wake me up more than wind me down, so I’ve learned to save anything intense for earlier in the day and keep the evening version slow and quiet on purpose.

Winding down properly
After that it’s the slow part of the night. I’ll spend some time on my Pinterest account, watch something if I feel like it, no strict plan, just whatever the evening calls for. Sometimes that means scrolling for outfit inspiration for the next day, sometimes it’s just mindless background noise while I do nothing in particular, and both feel equally fine to me. I don’t rush to bed either, it’s usually around 1am by the time everything’s done, not particularly early, but by then I’ve actually gotten through everything I wanted to.
Weekday versus weekend evenings
This whole rhythm is really a weekday thing, built around coming home from the office with a clear need to decompress. Weekends look a little looser, sometimes I skip the yoga entirely, sometimes the snack turns into an actual dinner, sometimes I’m out later than 1am instead of at home winding down. I don’t think a routine needs to be identical every single day to still count as one, it’s more about having a general shape to fall back on than following it exactly.
Why I keep coming back to this
None of this is especially disciplined, it’s just the shape my evenings tend to take after a day at the office. But washing everything off first, eating a little if I need to, moving gently instead of intensely, it all adds up to actually feeling like the day is over by the time I get into bed.
